Wound Care Tips

Proper wound care is essential for all participants. Whether you're supporting someone or managing your own care, these key tips can help promote healing and reduce risk of infection:

Clean and protect

Use clean water (or saline) and sterile technique to gently wash the wound. Always wear gloves or sanitise hands to minimise infection risk. Cover with a clean dressing to block germs.

Moist, supportive dressings

Choose dressings that keep the wound moist, as this supports faster healing. Good dressings also absorb excess fluid. Change regularly or whenever they become soiled.

Regular monitoring

Inspect wounds daily for increased redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge. If infection is suspected, act early — wound swabs and antibiotics may be required.
